On the Issues

For 20 years, Jodie upheld his oath to support and defend the Constitution, serving with the core values of the U.S. Army: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Raised with the strong, rural American values of hard work and community, Jodie believes in leadership guided by moral clarity, absolute truth, and universal love—principles that will drive his service in the Alabama Legislature.

Economic disparity and low educational outcomes are key ingredients for the rising crime in many of our communities.

The affordability crisis continues to darken the hope of achieving the American dream for   everyday, hardworking Americans.

Before the COVID pandemic, there were 614 billionaires and 11.6 million millionaires. Today, there are 300 more billionaires and nearly twice as many millionaires.  In 2025, billionaires wealth has increased by 18% or $6.9 trillion.

Alabama ranks among the top states in violent crime rate.  In 2024, Alabama’s homicide rate doubled New York City’s.  If we included only rural Alabama, the rate is still nearly twice as high as New York City.

For Alabama to move from below the national average in Math and Reading, teachers will tell you that they need targeted resources.

The Alabama Legislature enacted two laws, The CHOOSE Act and the “Constitutional Carry” bill, that only contributes to increasing crime rates in our communities.

The largest teacher’s union in Alabama, the Alabama Educators Association, opposed the CHOOSE Act which the association called “school vouchers.” The Alabama Sheriff’s Association opposed the permitless carry legislation.

Without provisions to both pieces of legislation, more and more of your hard-earned taxpayers’ dollars will continue to pour into the jail and prison ecosystem instead of economic development initiative programs.

Youth and adult learning models must be linked to changing demands in the job market. Public schools must be resourced without disadvantaging private schools. Sensible gun laws—which honor every law-abiding citizen’s Second Amendment rights—must place law enforcement and community safety first.

Jodie is experienced at serving the whole community, and he will continue that approach in advocating for community-based policies!

Having to drive an hour for trauma and emergency care can mean life or death for residents in many  pockets  of America.

Sadly, there are residents in District 21 that have experienced this first-hand. Since 2011, seven rural hospitals have closed their doors-including the Pickens County Medical Center. According to the Alabama Hospital Association, 52 more rural hospitals are at risk of closing.

Jodie believes that every citizen in every zip code deserves access to emergency room care. Difficult challenges require authentic, visionary leadership. As your State Senator, Jodie will lead the charge on this issue in the Alabama Legislature and co-partner with the advocates who feel responsible and obligated to produce realistic solutions to this policy failure.

No one understands a Veteran like a fellow Veteran.

From care access to navigating the claims process, Jodie knows the battle and will fight to clear roadblocks so that his fellow Veterans receive the benefits that they have earned.

Our Veterans have sacrifice and obligated their lives to support and defend the freedoms that we all enjoy. They deserve first class care and support!

Jodie will represent his follow Veterans in Montgomery and will carry him the solemn duty to ingrained in the Solder’s Creed- to leave “No Soldier Left Behind!”
